Product Photography Proposal Template

In SendScope under Photography, as Product Photography

Product work is priced per item, and the trap is the word item. A client with sixty products believes they have given you one job; you have sixty setups, and the difference between photographing a mug and a necklace is an hour.

These packages count products and angles, which makes the quote checkable before anything is shipped to you. The lifestyle tier is where the margin lives: a white background shot is close to a commodity, and a styled scene is not.

What the scope does not cover, deliberately, is who pays to get the products to you and back again. Clients almost always assume return postage is included, and it never is unless somebody has written it down. Settle that in your terms before the first box turns up.

The page your client opens

Not a screenshot. This is the real client page running on an invented deal. Pick a package and press approve to see what your client would see; nothing is sent or charged.

How it gets paid

Deposit, then balance

50% is due when the client approves, and the balance when you mark the work delivered. Both payments happen on the same link the proposal is on.

Card or bank transfer, and you choose which per deal. If you want a package to bill every month instead of once, you set that on the package itself when you build the deal, and the client can cancel it from their own link.

Prices are a starting point in Australian dollars. Change the figures, the inclusions and the number of packages to suit what you sell.

The starting terms

What approving the page records

These sit above the approve button. The client reads them, and approving records that they accepted them.

These terms cover the booking you approve on this page.

  • The booking. The deposit shown on this page holds your date and is not refunded if you cancel, because the date is then held for you and turned away from others.
  • Payment. The balance is paid before the edited images are delivered.
  • What you receive. The hours of coverage and the number of edited images are those described above. Images are edited in my own style. Unedited or RAW files are not included.
  • Use of the images. You may use the delivered images for the purpose described above. Commercial use beyond that, including advertising, is quoted separately. I keep copyright and the right to show the work in my portfolio, and will not do so if you ask me in writing not to.
  • If plans change. Tell me as early as you can. A date can be moved once, subject to availability, and the deposit moves with it.
  • If I cannot attend. If illness or an emergency prevents me attending, I will arrange a replacement photographer where I can, and if that is not possible everything you have paid is refunded.
  • On the day. Safe access to the location and the time listed above are needed for the coverage quoted.

Approving this page records that you accepted this scope, this price and these terms.

Starting terms, not legal advice. Read them, change what does not match how you work, and have a lawyer look at them if the work is large enough to warrant it. Your own default terms in Settings replace these automatically.

Before you send it

What to change first

The parts of this template most likely to be wrong for you.

  • Your definition of a product, since variants and colourways are often counted as one
  • Who pays the shipping both ways, which this template leaves out entirely
  • Whether props are sourced by you or supplied, which moves the price materially
  • Reshoots, and whether a product that arrives damaged becomes your problem
